Description
American Icons
Two American icons come together at the National Mall Pow wow to celebrate the grand opening of the Smithsonian museum of the American Indian.
Being of Iroquois and Abenaki stock myself, a few years ago when the Smithsonian Museum was holding a national celebration to mark the opening of the Museum of the American Indian, I took my son and wife to the celebration. The experience was second only to the election of Barack Obama to the presidency on the personal thrill scale. I captured about a dozen very memorable images that weekend. This image, entitled American Icons began as a shot of two tribal leaders sharing a quiet conversation before the Grand March. Ultimately I stripped it down to its bare essentials two magnificent headdresses and the Washington Monument.
One original image of this art is created. The original is signed, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. An open edition version has been created and the image is archived for historic purposes and publication only.
This image is available as a signed original or an affordable unsigned open-edition print. Signed originals are considered valued works of art because of the artist’s signature and the edition number indicating the rarity. For that reason they are created in limited numbers or a single original. They are printed on museum-quality rag fine art paper or canvas or metal. Open-edition prints bear no signature or may have a digital stamp. They are a very affordable alternative for people who simply love the work and can be purchased on various grades of paper and sizes to reflect your cost constraints. Their value is purely personal for people who love art and want to display an image.

Wayne D. King’s images are a celebration of life, blending the real and the surreal to achieve a sense of place or time that reaches beyond the moment into a dreamlike quintessentialism designed to spark an emotional response. Using digital enhancement, handcrafting, painting, and sometimes even straight photography, King seeks to take the viewer to a place that is beyond simple truth to where truth meets passion, hope and dreams.
