What most people know as the Battle of Little Bighorn is known to the Lakota (Sioux), the Cheyenne and the Arapaho as the Battle of Greasy Grass. The three nations joined together for what was to be the final major battle of the so-called "Indian Wars". These three nations called the river the Greasy Grass because of the greasy character of the grass surrounding the river where herds of Buffalo would graze and rest.
